Networking System Technology Courses

Prerequisite: 

CTS1131 with minimum grade of C

 

This course covers basic concepts of PC management and small office networking. Concepts covered include: basics of computer components, peripheral devices, data storage, networking, printing, mobile devices, security, system management and Windows installation. Students will learn to install and repair system components. This is a lab based, hands-on course. Students will spend time preparing for the CompTIA's A+ Practicum certification exam.

CTS 1120

Intro to Information Security

 

Prerequisite:
CTS1131 with minimum grade of C.
 

The goal of this course is to provide an introduction to networking technologies. Students will also be introduced to the objectives of both CompTIA's Network+ and CIW's Foundations exams. This course covers a wide range of material about networking; from careers in networking to local area networks, wide area networks, protocols, topologies, transmission media, and security. It not only introduces a variety of concepts, but also discusses in-depth the most significant aspects of networking such as the TCP/IP Protocol Suite. In addition to explaining concepts, the course uses a multitude of real world examples of networking issues from a professional's standpoint, making it a practical preparation for the real world.

NO PRE-REQUISITE

This course teaches the basic concepts and principles of information security, and the fundamental approaches to secure computers and networks. Its main topics include: security basics, security management and risk assessment, software security, operating systems security, database security, cryptography algorithms and protocols, network authentication and secure network applications, malicious malware, network threats and defenses, web security, mobile security, legal and ethical issues, and privacy.

Prerequisite:
CIS 1254 with a minimum grade of C
Must have completed at least 10 core classes in an ITE degree program
 

This is your chance to show local employers how well prepared you are for a career in information technology. This program increases the reputation of the ITE degrees and increases your chances for local employment. Your Internship may be paid or unpaid. You are required to work 100 hours during the semester at an Internship placement. You can arrange to complete these hours on any schedule that is acceptable to you and your supervisor, so long as the hours are completed by the end of the semester.
